What is Microsoft Copilot? 

Microsoft Copilot, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant, is being integrated across Microsoft’s operating systems and applications. Its functionality varies based on the app you invoke it in. In a browser, it functions akin to ChatGPT, while on Windows 11, it can toggle dark mode or initiate an activity session.  

Accessing Copilot through Microsoft Edge allows you to request page summaries. Additionally, Copilot is present in Microsoft’s Office apps, enabling AI draft generation in Word and presentation summarization in PowerPoint. 

How can you Use Microsoft Copilot? 

Accessing Microsoft Copilot varies by the app. We’ll guide you on using Microsoft Copilot in different applications. 

To access Microsoft Copilot on the web 

If you’re not using Windows 11, you can access Copilot through Microsoft Edge. Open Edge, locate the right sidebar, and click the Copilot icon at the top. Use the Ctrl + Shift + Period keyboard shortcut if you can’t find it.  

To access Microsoft Copilot on Edge 

If you’re not using Windows 11, you can access Copilot through Microsoft Edge. Open Edge, locate the right sidebar, and click on the Copilot icon at the top. If you can’t find it, you can also use the Ctrl + Shift + Period keyboard shortcut. 

To access Microsoft Copilot on Windows 11 

If you’re using Windows 11, you can open Windows Copilot using a hotkey. Ensure your operating system is updated to Windows 11 23H2 or later before proceeding. You can access Windows Copilot by pressing Win + C or clicking the Copilot icon on the taskbar. If you can’t find it, right-click on the taskbar, go to Taskbar Settings, and enable Windows Copilot. 

To access Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft 365 (Office) 

Accessing Microsoft 365 Copilot varies depending on the app you open. To use Copilot, you need an active Microsoft 365 subscription. In certain apps, Copilot will automatically launch when you start them.  

For instance, when you open a new document in Word, Copilot will appear, offering to help generate a draft. In other applications, you may need to activate it manually from the ribbon.

New Copilot Features 

Copilot’s accessibility broadened to a broader audience. Microsoft continues to offer a superb free experience for those exploring how Copilot boosts productivity and creativity through AI. Today, we are thrilled to announce further enhancements to Copilot. 

Copilot GPT  

This capability empowers you to customize Microsoft Copilot’s performance based on a topic significant to you. Gradually, Microsoft will introduce the selection of GPTs to the software.  

In January 2024, Copilot focused on specific areas like fitness, travel, cooking, etc. In the future, Copilot Pro users can craft their own Copilot GPTs using the Copilot GPT Builder. Keep an eye out for more details as we approach the release date. 

Copilot Mobile App 

The Copilot mobile app is available on Android and iOS. It enables flexible use on the go with seamless synchronization of queries and chats between your phone and PC. It provides GPT-4 access, Dall-E 3 for image creation, and the ability to include phone images in Copilot conversations. Download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. 

Microsoft 365 Copilot Mobile App 

Copilot is being integrated into the Microsoft 365 mobile app for Android and iOS users with a Microsoft account. This feature will be gradually introduced over the next month. Access Copilot directly within the app and effortlessly export your created content to a Word or PDF document. Download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
